Peter
Peter was born in the mountains in the countryside in northern Slovakia and grew up surrounded by nature. Peter’s family had a shared love for gardening, and they passed on this passion to him. One of his earliest memories was picking flowers and fruits with his mother and grandmother and exploring the magical world of plants.
From young age, he started experimenting in the garden by taking cuttings of various trees and shrubs and propagating them. His decision to study botany and garden design in Slovakia felt like a natural, and exciting, choice.
Later, his curiosity brought him to London to take an art degree to further learn about aesthetics and composition. Living in England allowed him to learn from Great Britain’s well-known gardening culture and their naturalistic designs for planting, visiting splendid national trust, historic and botanical gardens.
Peter started his career as a garden designer in London, where he lived for 14 years, deepening his knowledge of plants and design, working for various garden design companies, until he became the Head Garden Designer at a West-London design studio. During his career in London, he designed and planted over 50 residential and commercial gardens, from small terraces and back gardens, to offices, large scale residential complexes and country houses in the Cotswolds.
In 2022, after 14 years, Peter felt ready to take up on new challenge and decided to move to sunny Spain, to continue creating gardens in a new environment, based out of Madrid.
Understanding some of the dryness challenges in Spain, Peter’s knowledge of ecology and the fragile balance of our ecosystem, has made him focus on designing Mediterranean style gardens, using a mix of endemic vegetation and drought tolerant plants. His designs are mindful of the changing climate and water scarcity to become an issue.
Peter loves having an open discussion with clients to understand their vision and any concept they might have for their garden, and then tailoring a project that suits best each client, space and natural conditions.
